Gerry A. Aycock

HOMER, LA: On Wednesday, May 12, 2021, Gerry Young Aycock, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, joined her Lord and Savior at the age of 87. Gerry was born in her grandparent's home in Lisbon, Louisiana on February 2, 1934 to Mamie Lowery Young and Reginald D. Young. She was the oldest of 6 children and quickly fell into the role of nurturing and care giving to her younger siblings. She attended Lisbon High School, graduating in 1952. She married in 1951 and raised 3 children; Kenneth, Charlotte and David while working full time as an administrative assistant at the Louisiana Army Ammunition Plant. Her life revolved around her Christian faith, family and caring for others. So much so, that at age 50 she enrolled in Louisiana Tech and obtained an A.D. in Nursing. SHE LOVED BEING A NURSE! She began her employment as a Registered Nurse at Lincoln General Hospital in Ruston, then eventually went to Minden Medical Center where she worked tirelessly for the remainder of her career. She quickly rose through the ranks to become the House Supervisor and was lovingly named, "The Colonel." She was also a lover of the outdoors. Fishing and working in her flowerbeds were some of her greatest passions. In addition, she was an amazing cook. One of her greatest joys was having everyone home for the holidays. She would spend days preparing for our arrival and she was particularly known far and wide for her homemade rolls, deer steak and her famous carrot cake. In 1980 she became a Grandmother for the 1st time and from that point forward she became known to everyone as "NaNa." She loved her grandbabies and was quick to tell you that she helped "raise" each and every one of them, as well as numerous other little ones. NaNa loved The Lord. She accepted Him and was baptized as a young girl. She was a staunch member of Athens Baptist Church for over 40 years. When it closed, she moved her membership back to Rocky Springs Baptist Church; the church she grew up in. Her greatest earthly passion was for family and friends; she devoted her life to both. Gerry is preceded in death by her parents Mamie Ruth and Reginald Young, her son Kenneth Aycock and her brothers, Dr. Sydney Young and Nolen Young. She is survived by her daughter Charlotte Aycock Collins and husband Rick, her son David Aycock and wife Margaret; grandchildren, Jennifer Erickson, Joseph Collins, Clay Aycock, Zach Aycock and wife Hailey, Emma Folsom and husband Ben and Kenneth Aycock and wife Tessa; great-grandchildren, Audrey Erickson, Rowan Erickson, Elouise Aycock, Evelyn Aycock, Micah Folsom and Milam Aycock. In addition, she leaves behind two brothers, Steve Young, Allen Young and sister Sue Jones and husband Richard, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and family friends. The family would like to thank Presbyterian Village Nursing Facility and Regional Hospice for their loving care and support of our NaNa. She will be desperately missed. Services were held at Rocky Springs Baptist Church in Lisbon, Louisiana on Monday, May 17 with visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m., and funeral service immediately followed. Interment was at Rocky Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home or Rocky Springs Baptist Church Cemetery Fund. Pallbearers were Scott Young, Mark Young, Aaron Young, Kirk Jones, and Shaun Lain. Honorary pallbearers were Mark Smith and Kenny Sanford.
