HOMER, LA: Gladys Reavie Bennett McCalman, 99, of Homer, LA passed away Sunday evening, April 12th, in Madison, MS. She was born February 1, 1916, to the late Ada and Barton Duvalle Bennett of Liddieville, LA in Franklin Parish, Louisiana. After high school Reavie became a hair dresser moving to Homer to join a local beauty shop. On September 21, 1939 she married James Thomas McCalman of Athens, LA and they lived together in Homer raising their family, being very active in their church, and in the community. Preceding Reavie in death and after 40 years of marriage are her husband James, their cherished sons Herbert Duvalle McCalman, George Lawson McCalman, and her precious daughter Joan McCalman Miller as well as her Son-in-law Bob Miller. Also preceding her are both Reavie and James' parents, all of their siblings, numerous grandchildren, aunts, nephews, nieces and friends. Reavie is survived by James Thomas McCalman, Jr., wife Billie Ann Carman McCalman of Kenner, LA, and their family; Lynda Ann McCalman-Tabor of Madison, MS and family; Donald Gene McCalman, wife Bonnie Roberts McCalman of Homer, LA and their family; Joan McCalman Miller's daughters and their families; Herbert Duvalle McCalman's sons and their families; George Lawson McCalman's son Ryan, and David Allen McCalman, wife Susan Garner McCalman of Omaha, NE and their family. Along with her children and grandchildren Reavie is also survived by numerous great and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins and an abundance of friends-those in First Baptist Church of Homer, in Homer United Methodist Church, and throughout the community. Funeral services were held Friday, April 17th at 1:00pm at First Baptist Church, Homer, Louisiana. This was followed by a brief graveside service at Arlington Cemetery in Homer. Visitation was held prior to the service in the church sanctuary from 11:45am to 12:45pm. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to either First Baptist Church, Homer; First United Methodist Church, Homer; or Louisiana Baptist Children\'s Home, Monroe, LA.
