SHREVEPORT, LA - Services for Glenn F. Blackwell will be Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at 12:00 PM at Rose-Neath South with internment to follow at Forest Park West. Glenn was born May 31, 1930 in Inman, South Carolina. He attended Gardner-Webb College in North Carolina. He served over two years in the South Carolina National Guard before entering the United States Air Force where he served in the 2nd Air Force Headquarters of the Strategic Air Command at Barksdale AFB during the Korean War.
He worked at United Gas Pipeline for four years before going to work at Piggly Wiggly Operator's Warehouse where he was employed for 27 years as Director of Computer Operations and Human Resource Manager.
Glenn was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, sang in the choir and served on several committees.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J. Ezra and Effie Blackwell, brothers James, Douglas and J.E., sister Helen Gardner, and grandson David Green Jr. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Juanita Kilmer Blackwell and sons Jeff Blackwell, Brent Blackwell and wife Vicki, daughter Laura Green and husband David, grandchildren Dusten Jones and wife Sarah, Haley Jones, Sarah Blackwell and Hannah Blackwell, granddaughter Nicole McRae and husband Brett, great grandchildren Hudsen Jones and Onalee Blackwell.
The service will be conducted by Dr. Chad Hardbarger and Rev. Billy Pierce.
Pallbearers will be Dusten Jones, David Green, Tom Bruce, Rob Bruce, Brian Fulco, Dave Hanson, George Smith and Ron Denny. Honorary pallbearers will be the Collins Sunday School Class and the Emmanuel Baptist Church Board of Deacons.
Memorials may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church.
