They both loved animals and treated them like a family member. Bits will certainly miss him. Glenn served four years in the Navy during the Korean War, some of which was spent on a submarine. One of his main duties included printing classified bombing mission maps for naval ships and aviators. Glenn retired from the Shreveport Times/ Gannett and was proud of his role in bringing the newspaper into the new era of computers, working in production. He and his wife, Rita, then started their own business where they each worked diligently to make their company a success. Glenn and Thompson Bailey had a book published which is in the Library of Congress titled, "Historic Shreveport." He loved teaching computers to anyone willing to listen. He was a very smart man who never stopped learning, made evident by his technical abilities that continued until the day he passed. Glenn had two true passions in life, Computers and Baseball. For baseball he was first and foremost a fan of the game. He loved watching San Francisco Giants and going to the Shreveport Captains games, LSU Football home games and the N.O. Saints home games with family. One of his special memories was going to California to watch the San Francisco Giants win the 2010 World Series and being invited to be a part of their post game celebration. All combined he coached, including his kids and grand kids, and umpired baseball and softball from Little League Baseball to adult Softball for over 50 years. He umpired for several clubs including Little League, A.S.A., U.S.F.A., U.S.S.S.A. and Bayou Umpires until the age of 78. He volunteered annually to umpire for the Sickle Cell tournament in North Louisiana. He was honored in 2014 when he was asked by the Little League to throw out the first ball to start their play off tournament. One of his proudest achievements was when he was inducted into the A.S.A. National Softball Hall of Fame, Oklahoma City, Ok. on Oct.31, 2000. Umpires are a special, unique and dedicated group of people and he cherished his time spent with his baseball family.
