Funeral services were held for Gloria Ann Farmer Caskey, age 84, at First Baptist Church in Homer, LA, on Friday, August 9, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., Rev. Brian Thurman, officiated. Interment was at Tulip Cemetery near Athens, LA. Visitation was at the church from 10-11 a.m., prior to the service.

Gloria was born November 7, 1939, in Lincoln Parish, LA, to Everett E. and Lillian Greer Farmer. She entered into rest surrounded by family on August 5, 2024, in Homer, LA. Gloria graduated from Northwestern State University with a Bachelor in Nursing. She began her nursing career by working at Homer Memorial Hospital and then on to Gladney/Haynes Clinic. From there, Gloria went to work at the Health Unit in Homer as a Register Nurse and her career span over 40 years. She received the “Nurse of the Year” award from the Shreveport District Nurses’ Association for her service as a RN. Gloria’s favorite hobby was covering the lower 48 states RVing. Lincoln Parish Park was one of her favorite places to stay and plan the next trip on the road. She was a loving sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who enjoyed making memories with everyone. 

She is preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Lynwood “Buddy” Maddry; step-mother, Inez Jordan Farmer; step-sister Barbara Sue Walker; and step-brother, Jerry Cobb.

She is survived by her loving husband of 23 years, Ira Hodric Caskey; two daughters, Kim Cook and husband Randy of Homer, LA and Deborah Parker and husband Kenneth of Bullard, TX; three sons, Kevin Maddry and wife Sandra of Dubach, LA, Mark Caskey and wife Lisa of Houston, TX, and Paul Caskey and wife Deena of Lubbock, TX; eleven grandchildren, Jason Smith (Michele), Nicole White (Jamie), Bayleigh Cook, Dalton Cook, Levi Cook, Brandy Stevens (Richard), Danny Maddry, Lucy Washam (Paul), Sam Caskey (Mariah), Melissa Grossman (Craig) and Gunnar Koster; twelve great-grandchildren, Lillie, Noah, Evan, Saylor, Brylee, Shepherd, Birdie, Magnolia, Benjamin, Rylee, Adaline, and Parker; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Gloria’s family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Mark Haynes, Premier Hospice of Monroe, and Presbyterian Village as well as their staff for the care and compassion shown her.

Pallbearers were Jason Smith, Randy Smith, Jamie White, Sam Caskey, Grant Kilgore, Noah Holland, and Evan Holland.

Honorary pallbearers were Paul Washam and Richard Stevens.

In lieu of flowers honoring Mrs. Caskey, her family suggests memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Homer or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
