HOMER, LA: Funeral services were held for Mrs. Gloria May Monk Ham, 84, at Calvary Baptist Church, 1993 Hwy 3062, Homer, LA, on Thursday, September 3, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. with Brother William Colvin officiating. Interment followed at Colquitt Cemetery. The family received friends at the church at 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.
Mrs. Ham was born July 9, 1931, in Colquitt, LA, to William Wood and Sarah Elizabeth Christian Monk. She entered into rest Sunday, August 30, 2015 in Homer, LA, following a brief illness. Mrs. Ham served her Lord as a pastor's wife in several Texas churches, the last one being in Nacogdoches, TX. She retired from the City of Shreveport where she was employed as librarian and later promoted to Head of the Genealogy Department. Mrs. Ham was very talented in many ways and loved playing the piano. She encouraged and enjoyed others who were fortunate to spend time with her.
Mrs. Ham was preceded in death by her husband, Pastor Travis L. Ham; her parents; three sisters, Allyne M. Austin, Rebecca Monk Bond and Shirley Monk Piatt; and three brothers, Robert "Bob" Monk, Samuel "Bo" Monk and John William Monk.
She is survived by two sisters, Margie Monk Michael of Homer, LA, and Sarah Jane Monk Foster of Shreveport, LA; as well as, numerous nieces, nephews, church family and close friends.
Pallbearers were Mrs. Ham's nephews; Jerry Bond, Tom Borg, Jimmy Hand, Phil Schenck, Joe Ellis Michael, David Michael, Kevin Michael, Tom Foster, Andy Foster, Jerry Wayne Foster and Jimmy Monk.
