Glynda Joyce Canterbury

Graveside service for Glynda Joyce Canterbury will be held on Friday, February 23, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at Hurricane Cemetery. A visitation will be held at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Arcadia, from 11:00 until 11:45 a.m. prior to graveside service. 

Glynda Joyce Canterbury was born on Friday, February 22, 1952. She was the first born to Jewel Dee Cromeens, followed by brothers James “Buddy” Barnes and David Lee Benge, and one sister Jackie Benge. She was also very close with her cousins Linda and Cindy McKinney, who she considered sisters. Glynda grew up poor. While in elementary school, her grandmother Fannie Mae Cromeens worked as a janitor, and Glynda would help her clean the classrooms and restrooms. Her grandmother bought Glynda her very first dress for helping her clean. Glynda did not have a father in her life, but her dear uncle Jack McKinney stepped up and helped along the way while she was growing up.

Glynda married at an early age and had her son Michael Lee at 19. She was married for a very short time to Frank Otis Sutton. She then met and married Darrell Canterbury and was married to him for 46 years until his passing in 2022. Together Glynda and Darrell had two daughters, Kelly Rene and Kayla Diane. Darrell was a father to Michael Lee. Her daughter Kelly Rene preceded her in death. She is survived by her son Michael Lee and daughter Kayla Diane, her grandchildren Alex, Alicia, Emily, Kristi, Ethan, and Frankie, and many other nieces, nephews, and loving family. She is also survived by a special niece Tasha, who helped to take care of Glynda in her last days, who loved her like her own mom, and was like a sister to Michael and Kayla. Glynda will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
