Gwen Bradford Sealy was born in Shreveport, August 7, 1931 and passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2017. She grew up on the family farm near Greenwood, and attended Greenwood High School. Her paternal great-great grandparents came to Caddo Parish in 1848 and settled near Longwood.
Gwen attended Northwestern State College and experienced a successful career in business. She and her husband, the late Joel Pollard Sealy, Jr., have traveled extensively, particularly in Mexico and Central America. They helped sponsor orphanages in Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Guatemala, and Haiti through Nuestra Pequenos Hermanos and served on its International Board.
Gwen was a published genealogist, and made this hobby her life's work. She was active in several heritage and patriotic organizations, her favorite being the Daughters of the American Revolution. After serving as Shreveport Chapter Regent, she served the state organization as 3rd Vice Regent, Treasurer, and State Regent. She then served as Reporter General on the national executive committee.
Other organizations she served included the Louisiana State Archives Foundation, National Society Colonial Dames of the 17th Century, National Society Colonial Dames of America in the State of Louisiana, Dames of the Court of Honor, Jamestowne Society, Magna Carta Dames, The Society of the Descendants of Washington's Army at Valley Forge, Daughters of the Founders and Patriots of America, Louisiana Colonials, Daughters of the War of 1812, First Families of Ohio, Society of Southern Dames, and the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
Predeceased family members include; her husband, her parents, Charles Frost (Jack) and Berniece Palmer Bradford; brothers Charles Frost Bradford, Jr., and Robert Elston Bradford; sisters Edna Rose (Dinah) Bradford Frasier, and Edith Lynn Bradford; step-daughter Lisa Sealy Hollier; and grandson James Jennings Berry Wardlaw.
She is survived by her sister, Jacque Bradford Dodd; her children, Susan Dianne Danos and William Berry Wardlaw, Jr; step-children, Scott Peterson Sealy, Sue Sealy Geren, Laura Celeste Sealy, and Mark Pollard Sealy. Her grandchildren, Michelle Renee Wardlaw, Broderick Malachi McClendon and his children, Nadia Christine, Angelina Kalani and Braden Archer. Nieces and nephews, Charles Frost Bradford, III, Bobby Joel Frasier, Jr., Charles Robert Bradford, Berniece Bradford Kovac, Earle Newton Dodd, Jr., and Colleen Bradford Hadley.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 14, 2017, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall Street, Shreveport.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 15th, in the Greenwood Methodist Church, 9219 Church St., Greenwood. Her burial will be in the Greenwood, Louisiana Cemetery, alongside five generations of her family.
Pallbearers will be Earle Dodd, Charley Bradford, Paul Schreiber, Justin Davis, David Wiggins, and Ray Scott Crawford. Honorary pallbearers will be Frost Bradford, Joel Frasier, Frank Kovac, Trey Dodd, Jonathan Sealy, and Scott Sealy, Jr.
