Harlan Bentley Lee of Crossville, TN passed away unexpectedly Sunday, January 7, 2018. A funeral service with military honors and Masonic Rites, performed by Tommy Brown, will be held at Rose-Neath Southside in Shreveport, LA Sunday, January 14, 2018 at 2 p.m. Harlan's cousin, Pastor Mike Williams will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Forest Park East Cemetery next to his parents. Visitation will be Saturday from 5-7 and Sunday from 1-2 before the funeral.
Predeceased by his father, Iria Lee and his mother, Bertha Jane Martin, and his dear stepfather, Alvin Hall. Harlan is survived by his wife, Ida Turnage Lee; a sister, Sylvia Thomas; and aunts Florence O'Neal, Minnie Bell, Lillian Bailey, Dorothy Williams, and Lucille Bether.
Harlan was a native of Shreveport, and he and Ida had recently moved to Tennessee to pursue his dream of traveling in his motor home, seeing new places, and making new friends. He spent Christmas with his lifelong friend Johnny Plaster and wife Gevona.
He graduated from Fair Park High in 1966. He earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1972 and achieved his Professional Engineer status by taking the EIT exam in 1974. He held PE licenses in Louisiana, Texas, and Arkansas. He recently retired from J.W. Energy.
Harlan was ordained a deacon at First Baptist Church of Shreveport in 1982. He was a member of Summer Grove Baptist Church, Southern Hills Masonic Lodge, and El Karubah Shrine and served as a Shriner's clown.
He and Ida married in 1972 and just celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. Harlan was a great husband and son. He basically lived the Love verses of I Corinthians 13:4-8.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Plaster, John Turnage, James Easley, Paul Easley, Huey Haire, and Jeremy Chaney.
