Harold Thomas Holland, age 93, passed away on March 26, 2025. He was born August 8, 1931 in Daytona Beach, Florida. He was the son of Alec and Irma Holland. At an early age the family moved to Montgomery, Alabama. After graduating from Sydney Lanier High School in Montgomery, he entered Auburn University, School of Architecture (1948-1951) and graduated from Centenary College of Louisiana (1968). He left Auburn University during the Korean conflict.
Harold served four years of active duty with the United States Air Force. After leaving the Air Force he accepted a civil service position in the Air Force engineering department at Barksdale Air Force Base, where he worked for 41 years. At his retirement from the Department of the Air Force in 1991, Harold was serving as the Deputy Chief of Staff, Director of Engineering at 8th Air Force Headquarters. After retirement, Harold worked as a construction consultant on numerous and various projects in the Shreveport Bossier area. He worked for the state of Louisiana Facilities, Planning, and Control, and for Brown Builders until 2018.
He was the secretary of the local chapter of S.A.M.E. (Society of American Military Engineers). He served on the board of the Shreveport-Bossier Military Affairs Committee. Harold was a long-time member of the Broadmoor Baptist Church, and was also a member of the Shreveport Symphony, Little Theater, Petroleum Club, and YMCA.
Preceding him in death are his parents; his brother, Walter Holland; his sister, Patsy DeWitt, and his beloved wife of 67 years Sarah Holland, whom he loved and admired deeply. He often said his greatest achievement in life was his marriage to Sarah. Sarah passed away in December of 2018. It was a loving and fulfilling marriage.
A graveside service for Mr. Holland will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 4, 2025 at Centuries Memorial Park Pavilion on Mansfield Road in Shreveport. Officiating the service will be Dr. John Sullivan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite charity in Harold’s name.
