Harold M. Terry

Harold M. Terry Retired Sheriff Harold M. Terry passed peacefully from this life on February 5, 2016. Sheriff Terry served as a Caddo Sheriff's Deputy for 34 years, and he served the last four years of his career as the Sheriff of Caddo Parish. Harold Monroe Terry was born on September 10, 1925, to Edwin Bryan Terry and Lola DeSpain Serex. Joining the Marines at 16, immediately following the United States entrance into WWII, Harold said he didn\'t want to miss the war both his older brothers, Edwin and Charles, were fighting. He was a proud member of Company C, First Division, 22nd Marines. As the sole survivor in his platoon, he served in the Pacific in Guadalcanal and Okinawa. After two and a half years of combat, he received his Honorable Discharge and returned home to graduate with the C.E. Byrd High School Class of 1945. Harold began his career in law enforcement when he was hired by Sheriff J. Howell Flournoy in 1946. Harold had a passion for firearms. He and his wife Jane traveled around the region giving shooting demonstrations and teaching firearms safety to thousands. He was famous for trick shots and loved to entertain audiences of school children, the Scouts and church and civic groups with his seemingly impossible accuracy. After his retirement, he continued to teach firearm and personal safety classes. He was never happier than on the range, loading his own bullets, or talking about guns and hunting. He was also a devoted husband and father. He and Jane were married a month shy of fifty years. He loved to laugh and tell stories; he was blessed with a love for life, and he lived it to the fullest, recently celebrating his 90th birthday with a proclamation from Sheriff Steve Prator honoring the occasion as "Harold Terry Day." Harold is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jane Willis Terry, his son David B. Terry and granddaughter, Dr. Stephanie Jenkinson. He is survived by his daughter, Shannon Terry Wiley and her husband Ken of The Woodlands, TX; his stepdaughter, Sharon Jenkinson Reed and husband Tom of Shreveport; and his stepson, Dr. Stephen G. Jenkinson and wife Suzie of San Antonio, TX. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Morgan Wiley Farmer and Harold Cole Wiley, June Boddie Bennett, and Darin Terry. He was blessed with his devoted friend, Patricia Walton, his favorite goddaughter Margaret Shehee Cole and dedicated caregiver, Melinda Slocum. Honoring Harold as pallbearers will be Edwin Blewer, Tab Cahn, David Cole, Bill Hart, Gil McElroy, Roy Menefee, Dr. Pat Peavy, Mike Pipes, Sheriff Steve Prator, Bill Swaggert, and Joseph Woodley. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Deputies of the Caddo Parish Sheriff\'s Department.
