ATHENS, LA: A graveside service were held for Mr. Harry Melton Gandy, age 80, at Tulip Cemetery near Athens, LA, on Wednesday, November 4, 2020, at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Perry Anderson, officiated. Mr. Gandy was born on November 3, 1939, in Athens, LA, to Harry B. and Novyce Cox Gandy. He entered into rest on Sunday, November 1, 2020, in Maysville, OK. Mr. Gandy was a State Trooper for the State of Louisiana. He then became a farmer and later retired from the Postal Service. He graduated from Athens High School and attended LSU in Baton Rouge. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Athens. He loved fishing, woodworking, listing to bluegrass music and eating out as often as he could. He loved spending time with his family and particularly his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was lovingly known as \"Grandpa\" to all the family.Mr. Gandy was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Lois "Jennie" French Gandy of 52 years.He is survived by his two sons, Ricky Gandy and wife Becky of Athens, LA, and Jeff Gandy and wife Lorraine of DeWit, MI; a daughter, Ginger Ferguson and husband Don of Maysville, OK; a brother, Richard Gandy and wife Linda of Athens, LA; eleven grandchildren, Candace Gandy, Nancy Blanchard, Bailey Austin, Teal Austin, Taylor Brown and husband Jake, Casey Adams and wife Jeri, T.J. Adams and wife Christy, Christy Gray and husband Kevin, Aarin Mitchell and husband Braxton, Jamie Ferguson, and Caileigh Ferguson; thirteen great-grandchildren, Reagan Blanchard, Beaux Blanchard, James Brown, Riley Kate Brown, Keeley Angelle and husband Cody, Walker Gray, Maddie Gray, Logan Adams, Camryn Adams, Carsen Adams, Garrett Adams, Tyler Adams and Ryker Mitchell; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Pallbearers were Teal Austin, Russell Mills, Casey Adams, T.J. Adams, Mitchell Marsalis, and Kevin Gray.In lieu of flowers honoring Mr. Gandy, his family suggests memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church of Athens, LA.
