Harry E. Simmons, Jr.
Services for Harry Emmett Simmons, Jr. will be held at the Marshall Street Chapel of Kilpatrick's Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Shreveport on December 15, 2015 at 12:00 noon. Rev. Leo Lytle will officiate and music will be provided by Harry's niece, Anne Wise, and great-nieces, Stephanie Carr and Elisabeth Wise. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Graveside services will be at Forest Park West Cemetery.
Harry was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on October 1, 1936 to Ruth Lee Stuart Simmons and Harry Emmett Simmons, Sr. He died on December 10, 2015 at University Health in Shreveport at the age of 79. Harry was a 1956 graduate of Fair Park High School where he sang in the choir. He liked to play dominoes, checkers, and chess. He enjoyed fishing and being outdoors; he also loved bowling. Harry treasured holiday gatherings with his family. He liked to write poetry. After the death of his parents, he moved to Cedar Hills Apartments where he had many friends; he was known for his banana pudding. He played dominoes almost every afternoon and attended worship. When his health began to fail, Harry moved to Highland Nursing Center and made new friends. He played bingo there and continued to play dominoes. Harry was a Christian and member of Ford Park Baptist Church; as a young adult, he helped with the younger children. He will be missed by his family and friends.
Harry is survived by his brother, David Rae Simmons and wife Judy, nephew Michael Rae Simmons, niece Anne Chantelle Simmons Wise and husband Michael, nephew Stephen David Simmons and wife Pamela and six great-nieces and nephews: Stephanie Chantelle Wise Carr and husband Bryce, Robert Michael Wise, Elisabeth Anne Wise, Kyle Chandler Simmons, Madison Quinn Simmons, Chase Alexzander Simmons and many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and great-niece Laura Judith Simmons.
The family suggests that donations may be made to Gideons International for the purchase of Bibles to honor Harry's memory. Flowers are also appreciated.
