Harvey was born December 6, 1924 in Shreveport, LA and was a life-long resident. He was married for 58 years to Mamie Lee Beltz, before her passing in January 2014. He was an avid gardener of camellias, orchids, and bromeliads. His greenhouse was his pride and joy and he would share his love of plants to anyone who would walk to the greenhouse for a tour.
He was a past member and president of the Shreveport Bromeliad Society, past member of the Shreveport Orchid Society and Men's Camellia Club and past board member of Barnwell Art Center. Faithful, longtime member of Mangum Memorial United Methodist Church where he enjoyed many years in the Joy Class. He was a Mason and a member and past Monarch of the Grotto. Years ago he belonged to the American Legion 40 and 8, where he and Mamie enjoyed dancing and good times. In years past, he proudly served as a Caddo Parish Reserved Deputy. Harvey was a retiree of Arkla-Gas. He was very proud of his military service as a B-17 pilot in WWII.
Harvey was preceded in death by his loving wife Mamie Lee Beltz, parents, Harvey J. Beltz and Olga Oertle Beltz, and his sister, Eugenia Boulanger. He is survived by daughter, Diane Murphy and husband Michael; grandchildren, Jonathan Murphy and Kristin Murphy; great-granddaughter, Kinslee Nichols; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great nephews.
The family wants to extend a very special thanks to the Village Healthcare at The Glen and St. Joseph Hospice for taking such good care of Harvey.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made in honor of Harvey, to Mangum Memorial United Methodist Church or to Wounded Warrior Project.
