Helen was born on July 15, 1947 to Boardman Hartwell Smith and Mary Alice Bowser Smith in Shreveport, Louisiana and passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 in Shreveport.
Helen was a resident of Shreveport and worked as a schoolteacher before retiring. She graduated from Mansfield High School in 1965 and went on to graduate college from Louisiana Tech and earned her Master’s Degree in Education. After retirement, she completed courses through the church and seminary school to become a Reverend Deacon at St. Matthias Episcopal Church. She loved to garden and had a beautiful, memorable back patio. She also loved all the Clementine Hunter paintings she owned.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Bobby Ray Hunter. Left to cherish her memory is her son, Derrick S. Hunter; grandson, James Ray Hunter; brother, David D. Smith and wife, Beverly; sister, Gayle Laffitte and husband, Marshall; and numerous nieces and nephews that lovingly called her “Aunt Molly.”
The family would like to express special thanks to the staff at Willis-Knighton Pierremont for all the wonderful care and compassion given to our mother during her time of need.
