Funeral services for Henry "Kent" Van Arsdel, Jr., 76, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 19, 2018 at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel with Dr. Chad Hardbarger officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Park East Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 18, 2018 at the funeral home. Kent was born May 29, 1941 in Shreveport to Henry Van Arsdel, Sr. and Dessie Hammons Van Arsdel and passed away on January 15, 2018 in Shreveport. Henry proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. Kent was a member of the Queensboro Masonic Lodge and Emmanuel Baptist Church. He was an avid hunter and sportsman. His proudest accomplishments were raising his two sons. Kent was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Sheila Van Arsdel; parents-in-law, Charles and Iva Whitworth; and brothers-in-law, C.O. Woodard, Jr. and David Whitworth. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 32 years, Karen Van Arsdel; sons, John Mark Van Arsdel (Brittany) and Matthew Scott Van Arsdel; grandchildren, Kourtney Kimmerling (Kris), Derek Keith, Taylor Harper , Jenna Farrington, and Kenly Powell; great-granddaughter, Kinley Kimmerling; sister, Sara Woodard; brother-in-law, Charles Whitworth; and nieces, Elizabeth Porterfield (Eric) and Sherry Woodard. Honoring Kent as pallbearers are John Van Arsdel, Scott Van Arsdel, Dennis Shoup, Dave Linn, Bo Worley, and Derek Keith. Honorary pallbearers will be the P.I.G.S. Sunday school class. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Robert Hernandez, the staff at LifePath Hospice, and the staff at Heritage Manor West, especially Tiffany, Tessie, and Ruby. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church General Fund or to Shriners Children's Hospital.
