Hewitt "Sonny" Byars, Jr.

Hewitt "Sonny" Byars, Jr., 92, was born on September 25, 1928 in Marshall, Texas to Hewitt Byars, Sr. and Mary Stauto and passed away on Sunday, May 30, 2021 in Shreveport, Louisiana. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Drive, Shreveport, Louisiana from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Centuries Memorial Park, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Pastor Roger Patterson. Sonny was a resident of Shreveport. He loved all sports, coached softball for the city leagues and at Life Tabernacle. He assisted many coaches in the city with ball clubs. He volunteered at Centenary College in the Sports Department. He loved the sport of hunting and killed his first deer eight years ago. Once you knew Sonny, you loved him with his signature smile and never complaining. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents. Although Sonny had no survivors, he was blessed to have his church family at Life Tabernacle Church survive him. He loved his church family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Life Tabernacle Church, 4445 Meriwether Road, Shreveport, LA 71109.
