Hollis Craig Gamble, Jr., 69, of Shreveport, Louisiana, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2023 after a brief illness. Craig’s mother Lyndal, his friend John Odom, and the Reverend Ed Dillworth were by his side.
Craig was born October 10, 1954 in Mansfield, Louisiana to Dr. Hollis and Lyndal (Prine) Gamble. He graduated from Mansfield High School in 1972, attended Louisiana Tech University where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity, and graduated from North Texas State University in Denton, Texas. Craig worked in insurance and also maintained the family farm and holdings; he retired from the insurance business in 2006 to help care for his ailing father.
Craig never had children of his own, but he adored his three nieces: Holly, Elise and Katie. He enjoyed hearing about their latest adventures and accomplishments. He was very supportive of their careers and was incredibly proud of all three. Craig was a diehard LSU fan and loved going to football games in Baton Rouge whenever he could. When he wasn’t watching sports – particularly football and basketball – he would debate politics with friends for hours at a time. Golf was a favorite pastime; when he was able, he enjoyed a round of golf with friends at the Mansfield Golf & Country Club. Animals were a particular love of Craig’s, and he donated to several related causes.
Craig is preceded in death by his father, Dr. Hollis C. Gamble, Sr.; his paternal grandparents, Albert Jones Gamble and Ima Horn Gamble and maternal grandparents, Clyde and Dorothy Hollingsworth Prine. He is survived by his mother, Lyndal; sister, Lisa Gamble Clark and his nieces, Hollis (Holly) Anne Clark Brandt (Gannon Brandt), Elise Katherine Clark and Katherine (Katie) Anne Clark.
The family would like to thank TruLynn Ardoin for the friendship and care she provided to Craig. The family also appreciates the kindness shown by the medical staff of Willis Knighton Pierremont.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Grand Cane Cemetery, US-171, Grand Cane, Louisiana. Officiating will be Ed Dillworth, retired First United Methodist Church pastor.
Honoring as pallbearers will be Will Atkins, Gannon Brandt, Trey Gleason, John Odom, John Price, Rex Tamplin, and Michael Watts. Serving as honorary pallbearer is David Oliver.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials may be made to Grand Cane Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 18, Grand Cane, LA 71032, or to the animal charity of the donor’s choice.
