Shreveport, LA - Howard "Buzz" Bradford Brandt, 94, from Shreveport, LA, died of natural causes on February 12, 2015 following a massive stroke that he suffered a few days earlier.
Born on March 17, 1920 in Santa Barbara, CA, to Muzzy and Howard Brandt. Mr. Brandt is survived by his second wife, Louise Parker Brandt, his stepson Kevin William Parker, his son James Bradford Brandt, and grandson Travis Montgomery Brandt. His first wife, Olga Freeman Brandt, from Vivian, LA, is deceased.
Mr. Brandt joined the Army Air Core in 1939 where he served for 26 years, reaching the rank of Chief Warrant Officer III. During the Second World War he served as a tail gunner in a B-25 stationed in Alaska and flying patrol over the Aleutians. His air crew is credited with sinking one Japanese destroyer off the coast of Alaska.
After retiring from the Air Force, Mr. Brandt worked for General Electric as a tech rep in their jet engine division with duty assignments at Luke AFB, Arizona, the home office in Cincinnati, Ohio, and Tehran, Iran, where he trained Iranian mechanics in engine maintenance.
Mr. Brandt was a consummate craftsman, demonstrating his talent in woodcarving and in furniture building. Mr. Brandt is that rare individual where the phrase "loved by all" is a reality and not a trite platitude. Mr. Brandt was very giving to others, often helping those in need with home repairs and other services before age slowed him down.
A strong supporter of the Constitution and the concept of a strong, free America, Mr. Brandt worked on several political campaigns throughout the years, was a member of the Free Masons, and a long time member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Shreveport.
The family will follow Mr. Brandt's request for cremation. Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at Christ United Methodist Church. The family requests that a donation be made to the charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.
