SHREVEPORT, LA - A memorial service celebrating the life of Hugo Holland, 82, will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 9, 2014 at Noel Memorial United Methodist Church in Shreveport, LA. Officiating will be Rev. Mimi McDowell. Reception to follow with the family in the Worship Center.
Hugo Holland passed away on October 6, 2014, surrounded by his family. Hugo never met a stranger and touched the hearts of everyone who knew him.
He was passionate about many things in life including C.E. Byrd High School, LSU where he was a Kappa Sigma, the country he served, and giving blood. Hugo donated over 52 gallons prior to his cancer diagnosis four years ago and never passed up the opportunity to remind others to give this gift of life. He faced cancer like he faced life-with open arms, an open heart, and an unwavering faith in God.
Hugo was more than a man - he was a way of life. Everyone who knew Hugo had their own special story about him and there is no way that words can describe what he meant to his family and friends. He would want everyone to remember that "the load rides forward", "money doesn't grow on trees", and "the piper has to be paid."
Hugo was preceded in death by his parents, Hugo and Lucille. He is survived by his wife, Ann; sons, Hugo, Fred, Jim, and Jeff; daughters, Rae, Heather, Jayne and Nancy; grandchildren, Brandon Edward Moore and wife, Krystal, Amanda Ann Medlock and husband, Adam, Emily Grace Moore, Julian Scott Holland, Mia Isabel Holland, Dane Asher Holland, Harrison Chance Holland; great-grandchildren, Joseph Hugo Medlock, Samuel Allen Medlock; brother, J. Rodney Holland and wife, Francis.
In lieu of flowers, Hugo requested that you give a pint of blood or platelets if you are able. If you are not, donations can be made to the Hugo Holland Scholarship Fund at Noel Memorial United Methodist Church.
