Ikey left this earthly life December 19, 2014 after a brief illness. However, she had lived with dementia for several years. She was born April 16, 1938 to Virgil and Sarah Long and was the oldest of 5 girls.
Ikey received a BA degree from LSU and a MA from LA Tech. She held several jobs over the years, but her last and favorite job was that of a counselor at Rutherford House. She loved working with "her kids". She was most happy when she was outdoors or with her animals. Ikey loved camping and travelling in the Southwest. She especially loved the mountains of Arkansas near the Buffalo River.
Ikey was preceded in death by her parents, a nephew, Lee White, a special brother-in-law, Wayne Williamson and her beloved cairn terrier, Seany. She is survived by sisters, Sammie White and husband, Jim, Sally Hobock and husband, Terry, Margie Williamson, Ginger Austin, best friend, Pam Ward and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family gives many thanks to Ikey's niece, Traci Darnell and caregiver Deanne Batts for their kind and loving care which allowed her to remain in her own home until just recently.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations may be made to local animal rescues or charity of donor's choice.
