Shreveport, La - Isaac passed peacefully from this life the afternoon of May 1, 2015, after a gradual decline in health. He was surrounded and supported by his loving family and caregivers at Village Health Care at The Glen during the last days of his life. Isaac was born in Albion, Texas, October 16, 1925. He married Lou, his childhood sweetheart, in 1944 in Clarksville, Texas. They moved to Shreveport in 1946 where he lived the remainder of his life. He graduated in 1946 from Dimple High School in Dimple, Texas.
Isaac spent an active life in both work and play. In 1947 Isaac began a long career working for Arkansas Motor Freight Line, later Arkansas Best Freight from which he retired in 1982. After his retirement, Isaac managed and maintained properties for Charles T. McCord, Jr. He loved being able to return to his farm life keeping up one rural tract of land where he planted his own large garden with his grandson Trey. He taught Trey all the great things about country living there including building a treehouse, driving his little yellow pickup truck, driving a tractor, and sitting on the tailgate of a truck while eating sardines.
Isaac was an accomplished bowler in his younger life and enjoyed travel, Nascar races, water skiing, camping, playing bridge, and working around the house. Pop could stay busier during his rest times than most people are when they are busy. But, most of all, he loved being Pop to his grandson and highlight of his life, Trey.
Isaac is survived by his son, Isaac Mitchell, Jr. (Chris) and his wife Bettye (Be), and his grandson, Isaac Mitchell, III (Trey) and his wife Rachel. Isaac is also survived by his sister Evelyn Mitchell Roberts; his brother Huey B. Mitchell, Jr., and wife Sue; and his sister-in-law Sue Roberts Hansen.
