SHREVEPORT, LA - Funeral services for Jack Richard Hurst, 75, will be held at 12 Noon, Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel. Interment will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery, St. Vincent Ave. Rev. Ed Gonzales of Linwood Baptist Church will be officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at Rose-Neath Southside Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Jack was born on August 10, 1940 in Longview, Washington to Mr. Claude and Idelle Hurst and passed away from a lengthy illness on June 11, 2016. Jack was so eager to join the military and serve his country, his father lied about his age so he could join. After serving in the National Guard he joined the US Navy. Jack was a machinist by trade and retired in 2014. He loved fishing and cooking but his passion was hunting.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents Claude Vernon Hurst and Idelle Sparks Hurst. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Carolyn Shaffer Hurst; son, James Richard Hurst and fiancé, Stephanie; daughter, Sherrie Lynn Hartgrave and husband, Brock; grandchildren, Dylan Hurst, Matthew Hurst, and Summer Hartgrave; sisters, Margaret Hurst and Sally Dow and husband, David, along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Honoring Jack as pallbearers will be Stacey Freeman, Scott McNeill, Daniel Guree, Jacky Williamson, Jerry Williamson, and Jimmy Williamson.
The family would like to say a special thanks to Dr. David Abdehou for the great care given to Jack for many years. Also to the nurses and staff at Willis-Knighton Pierremont Hospital for all the wonderful care they gave. Our deepest thank-you to Jacks niece, Michelle Rearden, for being with him during his final days and all the love and care you gave to him and to aunt Fay for being with us and giving us strength, love and support.
