Jack Howard Martin was born in Miller County, Arkansas on June 13, 1923 and died at age 97 on Sunday, May 30 in Hammond, Louisiana. He leaves behind a loving family and a multitude of friends. Called "Pappaw" by his grandchildren, most knew him as "Mr. Jack."
He had varied interests including hunting, trapping, and gardening. When he retired at age 62, he planted a muscadine vineyard that kept him busy for the next 20 years. Jack was a master storyteller and would regale his family and friends for hours with numerous stories of his experiences. He had a smile (and a story) for everyone he met.
He served the Lord tirelessly and faithfully from an early age. In later years Jack and his wife Mary pastored the McCoy Church of the Nazarene near Rodessa, La. It has been said that Mary was the preacher, but Jack was the pastor.
Jack is survived by three children: Charles Howard (Mary) of Yantis, Tx. Rose Ellen (Bill), of Hammond, La., and Jack Jr. (Rita) of Texarkana, Ark., and his brother Reginald of Miller County, Ark. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and a large extended family. He is preceded in death by his wife Mary, his son Ron, and three grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 11:30 and service will be at 1:00 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Vivian this Saturday, June 5th. Interment will follow in the Vivian Cemetery.
