SHREVEPORT, LA- Jack Elton Nixon passed away peacefully February 4, 2017. Visitation will be held at 12:30 pm Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Summer Grove UMC with services following at 2:00 pm. Rev. Rachel McConnell-Switzer will be officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Hall Summit, Louisiana.
Jack was born April 8, 1937 in El Monte, CA to Francis P. and Olive Carter Nixon. The family returned to Hall Summit where Jack spent his childhood. He graduated from Hall Summit High in 1955, and attended Northwestern State University where he met and married the love of his life, Alice Carter. Jack graduated NSU with a Bachelor of Science and McNeese State University with a Master's Degree. He taught high school before joining Western Electric (AT&T), where he designed telephone systems. Jack was devoted to Summer Grove UMC through leadership, chairing committees, and faithfully teaching the Friendship Class.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Francis P. and Olive Carter Nixon. Those left to honor his life are his wife, Alice Carter Nixon; daughter, Michelle and spouse, Steven Bayer; daughter, Janet Nixon Mercon; grandchildren, Lauren Bayer Wideman, Alexander Bayer, Miriam (Claire) Bayer, Jarred Foster, Jacob Foster, Brendan Mercon and Madison Grace Mercon; great granddaughter, Annabelle Alice Wideman; and sister, Sarah Nixon Moreland.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Summer Grove UMC.
