Jack Phillips was born John Bunyan Phillips, Jr. on December 27, 1931 and went to be with his Lord and Savior, Monday, March 6, 2023. Visitation will be at Forest Park Cemetery, on St. Vincent Avenue, in the Mausoleum Friday, March 10, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will follow at 2:30 p.m. with Dr. Larry Williams officiating.
Jack was born, an only child, to Bun and Ruby Brown Phillips and is survived by a daughter, Salley Phillips Bardwell; treasured grandson, Christopher Phillip Bardwell; beloved sister-in-law, Jackie Salley Pennell; and a host of nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his wife, of 55 years, Grace Salley Phillips. Jack graduated from C.E. Byrd High School in 1950 and attended Texas University, where he obtained a degree in accounting. After serving his time in the Army, in Germany, he spent his life as a Certified Public Account with Heard, McElroy & Vestal.
Jack was known for his kindness, sweet spirit and the love of his Lord and Church. He spent many years as a deacon at Broadmoor Baptist Church and even more years teaching 9-year-olds in Sunday School. He was a master at photography and took great pride in his abilities to get the perfect picture for family and friends. He loved spending time on the lake and taught countless people to water ski over the years. He loved working in his yard and being outside, just enjoying beautiful days.
The family suggests memorials may be made to Broadmoor Baptist Church, 4110 Youree Drive, Shreveport, LA 71105 or the charity of the donor’s choice.
