A graveside service honoring the life of Jack L. Ponder of Shreveport, Louisiana, formally of West Monroe, Louisiana, will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 5 , 2023, at Greenwood Cemetery, 515 Everett Street, Ruston, Louisiana. Dr. Darrell E. Dean will be officiating.
Jack was born June 26, 1931, in Monroe, Louisiana to Charles M. and Clara Lazarus Ponder and passed away on Friday, December 30, 2022.
Jack was a member of First Assembly of West Monroe, Louisiana. He was a graduate of Louisiana Tech University with a degree in engineering and began his career at LP&L (Entergy). He also worked for the City of Monroe Engineering Department for many years before he retired. Jack also owned and operated Preferred Pagers in West Monroe and founded Christian Prison Outreach, of which he served as the executive director, where he influenced and saw many lives changed.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Billie Spurlock Ponder; parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ransom and Guthrie Spurlock; and brothers, Charles and William Ponder. Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Becky Ponder Burt and husband, Brent; grandson, Matthew Burt and wife, Molly; great-granddaughter, Isobel; sisters-in-law, Eloise Ponder and Nettie Mae Spurlock Semmes; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Honoring Jack as pallbearers will be his nephews.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of Willis-Knighton Hospital and Heritage Manor Stratmore, especially the 900 Hall Staff, for providing wonderful care.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
