Mr. Wise was born March 5, 1929 in Bronaugh, MO and passed away April 12, 2015 at his home in Bossier City, LA. Jackie, his sister and parents moved from Ft. Smith, AR during the great depression and made their home in Shreveport, LA. He lived his life in northwest Louisiana and was employed with Bird and Son Roofing Company for 42 years.
Jackie demonstrated the valued attributes of a man, husband, father, and friend by his devotion to those he loved, by his hard work to provide for his family and by his wisdom and knowledge that was passed on to his sons and grandchildren. He was kind and giving. When he loved you, you KNEW it. As a young man he actively participated in the lives of his boys, especially on the baseball field. He was always ready for a game of catch, helping coach little league teams, all while participating himself in fast pitch softball for many years. Later in life he enjoyed traveling the U.S. with his wife, Nona, in the travel trailer, enjoying nature and the friends that would sometimes accompany them. Jackie was regularly found at weekend car races and followed NASCAR closely. He was blessed with numerous friends, many that he maintained since childhood. He liked good music and was fond of Bluegrass and Gospel. He had a quick wit and love of laughter and loved anything peanut butter. Jackie will be missed but we praise God that he is in pain no more and is "absent from the body and present with the Lord." He is now with his family members and good friends that have already made the journey.
Jackie was preceded in death by his parents, Johnie and Opal Wise and sister Norma Jean Johnson. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nona Wise, and three sons, Johnie L. Wise and wife Patti of Shreveport, LA; Dennis C Wise and his wife Marybeth of Benton, LA; and Gerry D Wise and his wife Suan of Tyler, TX. He is also survived by five grandchildren, five great grandchildren and numerous friends and extended family.
The family wishes to express a special thanks to his wonderful team of caregivers: Anita Beal and Tiffany Hall and the staff of Amedisys Hospice, particularly Stephanie Goden, Pattie Kelly, Bettye John Tuminello and chaplain Jim Gstohl.
Memorials may be made to the building fund of Cypress Baptist Church, P.O. Box 340, Benton, LA 71006.
