James C. Broughton

Minden, LA James Claude "Bo" Broughton Visitation for James Claude "Bo" Broughton will be held Thursday, August 28, 2014, from 5 until 7 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden, Louisiana. Bo was born March 1, 1935, in Athens, Louisiana, and entered into rest August 22, 2014, in Minden, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carlton Broughton, and Nobie Liles Broughton, a brother and a sister. Bo was a proud graduate of Louisiana Tech University, majoring in Accounting. Children Cynthia, Jim and Brett followed in his footsteps and Bo had plans for grandsons Benjamin and Christian to do the same in the year 2023. At graduation with cum laude honors in 1959 Bo started a long career with Gulf Oil Corporation. He'd fallen off an oil rig of theirs working summers during college, after all, so why not take an office job?! He lived 18 years in Seoul, Korea, traveling the world and being on the cutting edge of the emerging oil industry worldwide. During his oil career he and his family also lived in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, (where he became a Steelers fan when Tech graduate Terry Bradshaw joined the team), New Orleans, Los Angeles, and finally retiring in Houston, TX. During his retired years Bo busied himself with projects like building a wooden boat, gardening and spending time with wife Zoe Ann. He kept up his business acumen by tracking Wall Street and watching the market, following his sports teams and tinkering around the house and garage. He played Santa Claus for his grandchildren, drove them around in the tractor, and served them ice cream for breakfast. He was an honest, practical, hard-working man, who will be sorely missed while the memories of his full and rich life will be cherished. It is imagined that Bo is in Heaven offering stock tips or tomato-growing advice when asked. If the Pearly Gates need some touch up paint we assume he's on the job. He is survived by his wife Zoe Ann Broughton of Minden, daughter Cynthia Broughton Hougardy and husband Gary, of Houston, TX; son James M. Broughton of Houston, TX, living and working in Afghanistan; son Brett Burgess of Ruston; daughter Wendy Richards of Colorado Springs, CO, and grandsons Zackery Richards, Benjamin Hougardy and Christian James Hougardy, and numerous other family members and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting donations in Bo's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital which Bo and Zoe Ann supported.
