ARCADIA, LA: Funeral services were held for Mr. James H. "Shot" Byrd, 76, in the Chapel of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Arcadia on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with both Rev. James Lambert and Rev. Don Woodard, officiating. Interment followed in the Bear Creek Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 12:30 till service time.
Mr. Byrd was born March 7, 1940 in Bryceland, LA to Hewitt H. and Lorene Baker Byrd. He entered into to rest Thursday, July 21, 2016 in Bryceland, LA following a lengthy illness. Mr. Byrd worked for and retired from the LA Department of Transportation & Development as a welder. He tended cattle and gardened providing for his family. Mr. Byrd loved spending time with his great grandsons, attending their ball games and even introduced one of them to fishing.
Mr. Byrd was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Carolyn Tilley Byrd; a son, Matthew Todd Byrd of West Monroe, LA; a daughter, Tina Lea Simmons and husband William of Hernando, MS; 3 brothers, Sammy C. Byrd of Ruston, LA, Donald Byrd of Bryceland, LA and Robby Joe Byrd and wife Betty of Arcadiam, LA; 3 granddaughters, Terin S. Alford, Tonia J. Phillips, and Rebecca E. Simmons; 4 great grandsons, Dillion Kitchens, Levi Alford, Dalton Simmons and Jacob Phillips; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pall bearers were Robby Lynn Byrd, Jeffery Alford, Jeason Smith, Chuck Moore, Micah Crawford and Larry Posey, Jr.
Honorary pallbearers were Wade Pulling, Hollis Holloway and Jimmy Moss.
In lieu of flowers honoring Mr. Byrd, his family suggests Bryceland Baptist Church.
