SHREVEPORT, LA - Graveside services for James Harold Carter (known as James, "Red", Jay, and JJ) will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2014, at Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent Ave. Officiating will be Msgr. Earl V. Provenza.

James was born August 26, 1923 in Linden, TX. He graduated from C.E. Byrd High School in 1941 where he played football and was named All-State lineman for his junior and senior years and earned him induction into the C.E. Byrd Hall of Fame. He received a football scholarship to Tulane University where he played in numerous varsity games. In 1943, he joined the US Army Air Corp becoming a B-26 Pilot flying 26 missions over Nazi occupied Europe in 1944 and 1945. Post war, he flew C-47 cargo flights in support of the Berlin Air Lift. His work career centered around several sales positions but his real love was fixing things and following LSU and the New Orleans Saints football teams. He was a long time member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

James is preceded in death by his loving wife of 37 years, Jeanne Belden Carter; parents, Spurgeon and Olean Carter; sister, Francis Carter Reichenbach; and son, Clay Belden Carter.

He is survived by his sons, Hal Carter of Shreveport and Jay Carter of Kingwood, TX; daughters, Cheryl Silvey and her husband, Ed, of Baton Rouge and Christine Lint and her husband, Ron of Colorado Springs, CO; brother, Charles Carter of Shreveport; granddaughters, Jennifer Carter Dochler and husband Robert of Harrisburg, MO, Lisa Wadsworth and husband Jared of Dublin, OH; Kate Schweikart of Estes Park, CO; grandson, Craig Silvey and wife, Amanda of Baton Rouge; and 7 great-grandchildren.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to The Glen Retirement Center where he was so well taken care of by the entire staff over the past year.
