Funeral services for James H. Cornelius, 82, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel with Rev. Henry Martin officiating. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. in Delhi Masonic Cemetery in Delhi, LA. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
James was born August 20, 1936 in Hope, AR and went to be with the Lord on December 19, 2018 in Shreveport, LA.
He graduated from Henderson State Teacher's College with a degree in math and physics. He met and married his devoted wife, Mary Frances Anderson from Delhi, LA, in 1956. They had one daughter, Leslie Anne. They moved to Fayetteville, AR where he graduated from the University of Arkansas as an industrial engineer in 1960. James began working at Western Electric in Kansas City and Shreveport. With a passion to own his business, he moved to Shreveport in 1978. He and Mary Frances opened Jim South Tire in Keithville, Shreveport and Bossier and later Jim South Propane in Shreveport and Bossier. He attended church with Mary Frances every Sunday at Heritage Manor Stratmore. He enjoyed going to Louisiana Downs. James was a Razorback all of his life. He loved fishing, music, and the New Orleans Saints.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Alene Cornelius and sister, Jackalene Cornelius Davis. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary Frances Anderson Cornelius; daughter, Leslie Anne Cornelius; grandchildren, Mary Heather Fanning and husband Alex, Frances Hannah Delhoste and husband Mark, and Sarah Anne Rodgers and husband Braxton; six great-grandchildren, Ella James and Augustus Jones Fanning, Sawyer Edward and Sally Frances Delhoste, and Georgie Margaret and Jude Wise Rodgers; and extended family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Alex Fanning, Braxton Rodgers, Alex Collins, Mark Delhoste, Anderson Collins, and Randy Washington. Honorary pallbearers will be John Collins, Claude J. Qualls, and Leon Fanning.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of donor's choice.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the Heritage Manor Stratmore family, LifePath Hospice, his caregiver Jeannie Hicks, Dr. Robert Hernandez, and Dr. Scott McRight.
