James Austin Dowies
Homer, LA: Funeral services for James Austin Dowies, age 70, were held at First Methodist Church Homer on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with R.B. Moore and Andy Maddox officiating. Interment followed at Arlington Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home on Monday 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.
Jim was born March 19, 1947 to Carrell Sr. and Lenora Dowies. He entered into rest June 10, 2017 in Homer following a brief illness. Jim was a devoted family man who adored his children and grandchildren. Jim was a strong Christian man being extremely active and faithful in his church, Living Word in Minden.
He was the Director of Pharmacy at the Springhill Medical Center for many years.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Dorothy.
He is survived by his loving wife Joyce Dowies, of 48 years, daughter Cindy Norment and husband Jeremy, son, Sam Dowies and wife Liz, and Greg Strickland and wife Donna, grandchildren, Kristen, Trent, Taylor, Reed, Lauren, Max, Tucker, Luke, and by his brother, Carrell Dowies, Jr. and wife Harriett, sister, Vern Dowies, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Honoring Jim as pallbearers were: Stephen Dowies, Reed Anders, Trent Anders, Taylor Norment, Shawn Harmon, and Keith Lee.
Honorary pallbearers: Max Norment and Luke and Tucker Strickland.
The family would like to thank the staff of Homer Memorial Hospital Emergency Room.
