James C. “Jim” DeMoss Jr. was born on December 27, 1947, in Plain Dealing, Louisiana, to James “Jimmy” C. DeMoss and Noel Francis Scott and passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, in Plain Dealing, Louisiana.
James “Jim” DeMoss, attended Rocky Mount High School where he played basketball and was a member of the Future Farmers of America. He was a graduate of the class of 1966. He then joined and served in the United States Navy on the USS Lexington until 1971. He met and then married the love of his life Sally DeMoss on August 3, 1968. They had three children and made their home in Shreveport, Louisiana until 1988 and then returned home to Rocky Mount, Louisiana. Jim and Sally opened their own business, Fork Lift Repair in 1993 where he worked as a mechanic until his passing. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, shelling peas, cracking pecans, picking up aluminum cans and other treasures he found on his daily journeys, and spending time with his grandchildren. He had a passion for singing in the church choir. Jim had a true servant's heart and devoted his life to helping others without expectation of anything in return. His greatest passion was sharing the gospel and his love for Jesus. He was a leader, mentor, friend, and father figure to many over the years. He served as an elder and a Sunday school teacher at Fellowship Bible Church in Benton, Louisiana.
Jim, also known as PePaw had a smile for everyone, and picking on you was his favorite term of endearment. He had a rough exterior, but his bark was always bigger than his bite. He truly had a heart of Christ. He would drop everything he was doing to go help someone, even if he knew going in that someone couldn’t pay him, he still went to help. Anytime something was broken from sewing on a button to fixing a toy everyone would just say “PePaw can fix it.”
Some of his famous PePaw Sayings were: “Good Grief.” “This cotton pickin thing.” “Give it here, you’re not doing it right., I will do it.” “You need to go to church.” “Ya’ll are gonna miss me when I’m gone.” "You Clown." “I swear this stupid phone.”
