James “Jim” Yates. age 70. was born December 13, 1952, in Shreveport, LA, to Mr. and Mrs. Herman Yates. He entered into rest on November 24, 2023, in Homer, LA. Jim was a very outgoing person who never met a stranger. He loved his Harley and traveled on it often, even with oxygen. Since he was 18 years old, he worked as a dispatcher for various transportation companies, and for the last 22 years he worked for Kary Bryce with PMI Trucking retiring in January 2023. Jim loved going to the country with the boys, the “Keithville-KABBDA,” some of his favorites sayings were “That dog will hunt,” “One more, and I gotta go,” and “Mighty fine,” Jim will be dearly missed by family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Onie Buck and her husband, Ed.
He is survived by his loving wife, Dayle Kopplin Yates; four children, Leslie Yohe and husband Tim of Seguin, TX, Randy Real and wife Trista of St. Hedwig, TX, Robin Schoenfeld and husband Webb of San Antonio, TX, and Ashley Smelser and husband Zak of Dayton, TX; nine grandchildren, Casey Yohe, Kayden Shoenfeld, Kase Shoenfeld, Reid Shoenfeld, Addlynn Mills, Bransyn Mills, Braleigh Mills, Kooper Real, and Palmer Real; sister, Debbie Greene of Virginia; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Jim’s family would like to express their gratitude to Willis Knighton Cancer Center and Dr. Anil Veluvolu.
A Memorial Service was held at PMI Trucking, 153 Blazer Drive, Sibley, LA, on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers honoring Jim, his family suggests memorials be made to American Cancer Society.
