James Kobs

A Celebration of Life honoring James Edward Kobs, also known as “Pop”, will be held at 4:00 p.m. until the cows come home on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at the home of James and Betty Kobs.

James was born March 24, 1930 to Edward and Josephine Kobs in Minneapolis, Minnesota and passed away peacefully at home, Sunday, August 18, 2024 in Shreveport, Louisiana.

He was the third of five children and attended Edison High School. After high school, he went to University of Minnesota where he played football and studied engineering. After college, he went to join the United States Air Force and was stationed in San Antonio, Texas. He played football for the Air Force for four years. It was at this time he began to play guitar and he became very talented. He sang and played with many people all his life and all over the country. Everywhere he went, his guitar traveled too. After his time in the Air Force, he ended up in Shreveport, Louisiana where he worked in the oil well business. He was a mechanical engineer and a trouble shooter, eventually starting his own company Analytical Logging. He was sent on a troubleshooting call in Sand Hill, Mississippi. While there, he met a young girl working in a coffee shop named Angelina, who would become his wife. They married in New Augusta, Mississippi in 1958.

They raised three kids, Robert, William and Lori. They were married for 24 years. After his first marriage, James met Betty Boles, who he married and lived with for 40 years until she passed in 2021. James and Betty traveled around the country in their motorhome enjoying many sites around the country. They went everywhere together, even to see the polar bears. They especially loved going to casinos all over the country during their travels. James had many friends who enjoyed getting together to play music and sing until the cows came home.

James was a member of Shriners, was a Mason and a member of the American Legion and First Baptist Church in Bossier City. He was an avid duck hunter and a member of Ducks Unlimited. On his hunting trips, his loyal Retriever named “Tar-Baby” was right by his side.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty Kobs; step-daughter, Cheri Sanders; siblings, Harry Kobs, Donna Kobs, Kenny Kobs and grandson, Joseph Pacheco. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Robert Kobs, William Kobs and Lori Kobs Pacheco; brother, David Kobs; mother of his children, Angelina Kobs; eight grandchildren, Juan Pacheco and wife, Valerie, James Pacheco, Taylor Kobs, Hayden Kobs, Perri Kobs, Cassie Stanley, Bubba Sanders, Jessie Sanders and James Stanley; five great-grandchildren, Miguel, Myah, Avery, Layla, and Halen; close family friends, Doreen Ogburn, Brian Henley and Miguel Torres; dear kitty cat, Sweetie and puppy dogs and many many other family and friends.
