LONGVIEW, TX: After a battle with Parkinson's, Bubba passed away on April 3, 2021. Bubba was born on August 4, 1939, in Minden, Louisiana to Robert Ozzie "R.O." and Alice McKenzie McClung. He graduated from Homer High School in 1957 and earned his undergraduate degree from Louisiana Tech University in 1961. He married his high school sweetheart, Sylvia Kelly, on August 25, 1961. They were happily married, and rarely left each other's side for the last 59 years. Whether it was vacationing together (visiting 49 of the 50 states, but never making it to Indiana), going to performances and/or "ball games" for their grandchildren, or for years Bubba and Sylvia walked an average of two miles a day and it was in that time that they had their best talks.
While a life-long Homer resident at heart, Bubba moved to Alexandria, Louisiana in 2014 and then to Longview, Texas in 2019 to be near close family members. Bubba was an active member of Homer Church of Christ his entire life. In his younger years, he was a long-time member of the Homer Jaycee's and held many offices, including the role of President. He, along with many other Jaycee's were instrumental in getting several Miss America's to come to Homer for the Miss Claiborne Parish Beauty Pageant. He gave his time to various organizations in the community including the Homer Country Club, Claiborne Academy, and even served one term on the Homer Town Council. He began his career at Homer National Bank and later, he helped start First Woodlands Bank in Homer. Bubba worked there until it was purchased by First Guaranty Bank, where he retired in 2004.
Bubba was such a kind and gentle man, and always put God and his family first. God was of such importance in his life, that he became a Gideon in order to share the Word and distribute Bible's to the people that crossed his path. When anyone asked how he was doing, he would always say "JUST RIGHT!" He enjoyed riding horses, bailing hay, and feeding the cows with his dad. Bubba also loved to go on cruises, as he enjoyed all of the food that the cruise lines provided. He enjoyed traveling to Branson, Missouri frequently to go to shows and loved inviting friends to travel to Branson. More importantly, when the grandkids came, he used to say it was "clean fun in Branson!" He loved to tell all of the grandchildren stories and rub their backs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, R.O. and Alice McClung, and daughter-in-law Shelly McClung. He is survived by his wife Sylvia McClung, Longview, Texas; James McClung, Longview, Texas; and Paul McClung and wife Meg McClung, Roswell, Georgia; and his seven grandchildren that he deeply loved: Julie Marie (and fiancé, Mitchell Pellerin), Caleb Robert, Alyssa Anne, Holden James, Brianna Kelly, Walker DeWind, and Molly Katherine. He is also survived by his sister Sarah McClung Little and husband Tom, and nephews Warren and Thomas; sister-in-law Roslind Kelly Long and husband Rod, and niece Elizabeth Gladney Hutchison and husband Brad.
Pallbearers will be Caleb Robert McClung, Holden James McClung, Walker DeWind McClung, Charlie McKenzie, Bill Owens, Warren Little, Thomas Little, and Keith Peterson. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. James Cox, Tom Crocker, Robert Reeder, Wayne Kilpatrick, Britt Synco, Wayne Perry, Wayne Baxter, Dr. Don K. Haynes, Henry Kinberger, and Dennis Butcher.
We would like to provide our deepest thanks and appreciation for Bubba's outstanding caregivers: Sue Johnson, Nell Taylor, Texas Home Health, and Hospice of East Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be sent to any local church or community organization in Homer or Claiborne Parish. Bubba's wishes and dreams were always to see the town of Homer prosper as he cherished his wonderful childhood and adult years being a part of the Homer and Claiborne Parish family.
Funeral services were held for Bubba in the chapel of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Homer, LA at 405 East 5th street on Thursday, April 8, 2021, at 10:00 a.m., with Mr. Ray Anderson and Rev.
