James Robert Potter

James Robert Potter, 97 years of age, better known as \"Bob,\" went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 10, 2021, in Shreveport, Louisiana. Born on June 20, 1924, he was the only child of James Alton and Pearl McCraw Potter of Spartanburg, South Carolina. He graduated from Clemson University in 1947 with a degree in Civil Engineering. Bob volunteered for the Armed Forces in 1942 and later was assigned to the Army 103rd Infantry Division. During World War II he served in Alsace-Lorraine, France, Germany and Austria. For his service he was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery behind the enemy lines and the Purple Heart. In 1947, he married Lucile DeVoe Holmes "Bobie" of Franklin, Louisiana. They were blessed with five lovely daughters. After Bobie\'s death in 2002, he married Mary Anne Howard in 2004, who later passed away in 2011. Bob\'s professional career was devoted to the construction of offshore platforms and production facilities in the Gulf of Mexico, Africa, the Middle East, North Sea, Trinidad and Japan. He and his family lived in New Orleans, The Netherlands and England during these assignments. He retired in 1987, but continued to work as a consultant for several more years. Sugar Creek Baptist Church in Sugar Land, Texas was his church home where he served as a deacon and assisted in the Church\'s nursing home ministries. He also directed music at retirement homes for over 15 years. Bob was a devoted father, husband and Opa. He loved his family, God, his country and playing golf. He was also an awesome storyteller. Everyone who spent any time with him was enthralled with the stories of his incredible life. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bobie; his daughter, Pamela Lucile Potter Williams and his second wife, Mary Anne Howard Potter. He is survived by his remaining four daughters, DeVoe Potter Allen and husband, Johnny of Covington, Louisiana, Susan Potter Adams and husband, Mike of Shreveport, Louisiana, Julie Potter Treece and husband, Claude of Sugar Land, Texas and Nancy Elizabeth Potter of Sugar Land, Texas. Also left to honor their Opa's memory are 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by his special friend, Anne Purcell. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the following care givers who lovingly helped with Bob\'s care: Amy Krohn and the COVID nurses with Village Health Care at The Glen Retirement System, Jeri Kahre and Debbie Congelose with LifePath Hospice, Frank and Ernestine Roberson and Eartha Garner. A private family memorial service will be held in Franklin, Louisiana. His ashes will be combined with Bobie\'s and interred at the Barbour Mausoleum in Franklin, Louisiana. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Sugar Creek Baptist Church Mission Fund, 13333 Southwest Freeway, Suite 200, Sugar Land, Texas 77478, The Glen Retirement System, 403 East Flournoy Lucas Road, Shreveport Louisiana 71115 or the First United Methodist Church, P.O, Box 1567, Shreveport, Louisiana 71 I 65-1567.
