Homer, LA; Memorial services will be held for James E. Smith, 71, at the Chapel of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Homer on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. R.B. Moore, officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
James was born Dec. 10, 1942 in Springhill, LA and he passed away Wednesday, June 25th at University Health in Shreveport from injuries he sustained from a fall at his home. James was very funny and "full of bull" and would keep you in "stitches"! It is believed that he got that from his dad. James and June owned and operated the "Little Purple Smokehouse" in Springhill, where he was a mastercook, a storyteller and he loved good food. Even though he was a bit hardheaded and headstrong, he had a big heart and liked to help people. James was a excellent dog trainer, having two dogs in his life that were like his children, Victor and Bear. Our home is very quiet now......we will miss his noise.
James was preceded in death by his parents, W.F. Smith and Ouida Rambin Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years, June McCullin Smith of Homer; one son, J. Daniel Smith of Homer; two brothers, William F. "Billy" Smith and wife, Shirley of Springhill and John W. Smith and wife, Diane of Monroe; nieces, Cathy Kottonbrook and her son, Brandon, and Rose Taliaferro and her husband, Scott and their daughter, Jenny Blalock and her husband, Casey; nephews, Gavin Smith and Robert Smith and his wife, Suzanne and their children, Annabeth, Payne and Hudson; and numerous cousins, other relatives and friends.
For friends considering memorials honoring James, his family suggests the First United Methodist Church, 501 W. 3rd. St., Homer, LA 71040 or the charity of the donor's choice.
