James “Tody” Stamos, 93, peacefully entered into eternal rest with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 13, 2024. Funeral services for James will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1719 Creswell Ave, Shreveport, Louisiana. A burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Shreveport, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Father Ioannis Krokos.
James was born on January 11, 1931 to James Stamos and Calliope Stamos in Shreveport, Louisiana.
James was a devoted husband, friend, and family member who inspired everyone he touched. Being Greek Orthodox, his family was actively involved at the church, they were a big part of, St. George Greek Orthodox Church and growing up in this environment, a strong bond grew within the families. Some of “Tody’s” fondest memories were those of special times when he was hanging out with his childhood friends, the Stravolemos’, Mijalis’, Booras’, Cosse’s and Theo’s and his brothers, Charles and Manuel. “Tody” was full of life, and he was always there for his family and friends.
His strong faith in God continued as he and his wife were members of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Houston. His involvement in his church growing up included being a member of the Sons of Pericles along with his many childhood friends. He later served as recording secretary for the Order of Ahepa.
James attended and graduated from Byrd High School in 1947. He then attended and graduated from Draughon Business College in 1948. Shortly after, his first job was with United Gas Pipeline Company in 1950. In 1951, he chose to serve his country and joined the United States Navy where he served honorably until 1954. He then resumed his career at United Gas Pipeline Co, where he met his loving wife of 56 years, Mim Cryer. After Pennzoil acquired United Gas, James and Mim moved to Houston, Texas in 1975. He then retired from Penzoil in 1989.
James was also a lover of all types of sports. He always enjoyed playing softball and bowling. He also enjoyed watching sports on television through the years and was a big fan of the Houston Astros, Texas Aggies Football and the Dallas Cowboys. He enjoyed talking about sports during these joyous times with his brothers and nephews.
James is preceded in death by his parents, James and Calliope, and his brothers, Charles and Manuel. He is survived by his wife, Mim Cryer, and his nephews Jim Stamos and John Stamos.
Honoring James as pallbearers are Bobby Booras, Steven Booras, Greg Panos, Jim Stamos, John Stamos, and Trey Tomasek. Serving as honorary pallbearer will be Manuel Stravolemos.
