HOMER, LA: Funeral services were held for Mr. James Melvin Williams, Sr., 88, in the Chapel of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Homer on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Jerry Gill, officiating. Interment followed in Lebanon Cemetery near Homer. The family received friends at the funeral home on Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.
Mr. Williams was born April 30, 1927 in Hico, LA to Willie Houston and Susan Iberia Young Williams. He entered into rest on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 in Homer. Mr. Williams serve his country in the U. S. Navy. Later, he worked in construction as a dozer operator.
Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 56 years, LaGloria Eloise Hollenshead Williams; and a son, James Melvin Williams, Jr.
He is survived by his two daughters, Carrie Walker and husband Mike of Haynesville, LA and Susan Williams of Homer, LA; two brothers, Donald Williams and wife, Patsy of Homer and Clinton Houston Williams and wife, Mary of West Monroe, LA; eight grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Honorary pallbearers were Jason Williams, Tommy Williams, Jamie Williams, Lyn Peterson, Charles Thomas and James Thomas.
In lieu of flowers honoring Mr. Williams, his family suggests memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 910 Peirremont Road, Ste. 410, Shreveport, LA 71106 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO BOX 1000 Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908.
