Janie Zeline Bonds Griffith was born March 31, 1923 in Mansfield, Louisiana to Albert and Mattye Bonds and passed away, Sunday, July 25, 2021 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Janie attended school in Mansfield, LA and Grand Cane, LA, where she graduated. She later attended business school in Shreveport, LA. During World War II she worked for the federal government at Selman Army Airfield in Monroe, LA, Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, LA and Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, NE. She continued working for the Caddo Parish Health Unit until she retired from both the federal and state government. After she retired, she married Eugene Griffith, whose family were her neighbors during her childhood years. A devout Christian, Janie first joined the Methodist church in West Monroe, LA and eventually found her home at First United Methodist Church Shreveport, where she was a member for over 50 years. Janie enjoyed keeping up with the news and current events and would often write letters to the editor of The Shreveport Times and to her many friends. She loved to go shopping and have lunch dates with her friends and family. Janie will always be remembered for her kind and giving spirit and her many acts of selflessness. She will surely be missed by all who knew and loved her. She is preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Eugene Griffith; sister, Emily McCully; brother, Albert J. Bonds, Jr; and nieces, Janie Thibodeaux, Anna Hatcher and Charlene Miller. Left to cherish her memory are her brother, Charles Leon Bonds, and numerous nieces and nephews.
