HOMER, LA; Janis A. Curran, known as Jan to her friends and loved ones, died Sunday October 12th at the age of 71 after a long battle with brain cancer. She was born in Haynesville, Louisiana on January 22, 1943 and lived in that vicinity for the first 16 years of her life. Jan was a vibrant, smart, caring woman who spent her life in service to others as a marriage and family therapist. She retired from Boysville, then continued to see clients in private practice until after her diagnosis of brain cancer. Though of modest means, she was generous to those in need; she tithed, gave rides to church to friends, participated in charitable events. She was a voracious reader, interested in everything, especially anything medical - she always wished she had gone into that field and she would have made a great diagnostician. She loved gardening and always had beautiful plants. She smiled often and always looked for the good in every situation. She taught her children to love and honor God in all things, to think of others and to live with integrity. Above all, she had a beautiful heart and a strong, deep love for her family and many, many friends.
She is survived by her husband, Joel Curran of Schertz, her children, Michael Burgess and his spouse Micah of Hewitt, TX, Mark Burgess of Anacoco, LA, Juliet Burgess of Dallas, TX and Michelle Alexander and her spouse Chris of Little Elm, TX, her stepchildren Diane Henderson and her spouse Josh, David Curran and his spouse Melissa, as well as her beloved grandchildren Sydney, Gabrielle, Jacob, Molly, AnnaJoy, Douger, Isaac, Chase , Naomi, Luke, Zoe, Cooper, and Levi.
She was preceded in death by her parents Curtis and Lillian Alexander.
