Jeanne Lowery Laing (Nana), age 68, of Shreveport won her fight with cancer on February 21, 2015. Cancer would have kept her suffering but she is now healed.
She is survived by her husband, Michael Laing of Shreveport; her sons: Rocky Cross of Shreveport and Derrick Matranga of Houston, TX; daughter, Jaleen Witt, of Shreveport; stepson and stepdaughter, Jarod Laing of Vivian and Michelle Laing of Blanchard and her family of choice-Ma and Pa-Buddy and Barbara Laing of Vivian, La who thought of her as their own daughter and sister-in-law, Tracey Laing of Vivian and brother-in-law, Tommy Laing of Shreveport.
Also surviving her are her grandchildren, Blake and Brian Matranga, Barron Cross, Sunny, Skekina, and Summer Myatt-Cross. Cherishing her memory are grandchildren Grace Ann Landman, Victoria Kathleen Landman, John Michael Landman, and London Rose Landman. She is also survived by a sister, Karen Recchia of Shreveport; and step-mother Alta Franks.
During her life, she really loved being a substance abuse counselor. She was so proud of her clients from her private practice and from The Addiction Recovery Center and the Core Center for gambling and she celebrated their miracles. She really believed in Alcoholics Anonymous and the change it made in her life. During the last year, she became an avid supporter of the Bossier Parish Sheriff's Young Marines for the influence they had in her grandchildren's lives and was known as "Nana" by the staff and Young Marines alike.
Predeceasing her in death are her mother, Betty Poole, of Granby, MO and father, John Franks, of Shreveport, La.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2014 at Rose-Neath Marshall St. Chapel with Chip Mitchell officiating.
