Jerry Barron “Mamère", 83, of Shreveport, Louisiana entered into eternal rest on November 23, 2023. She was born on August 19, 1940 in Shreveport to Edward DeLay Clark and Imogene V Clark.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 located at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Drive in Shreveport. Funeral services honoring the life of Jerry will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at the funeral home. Officiating the service will be Rev. George Mauldin. Interment will follow the service located at Forest Park West Cemetery, 4000 Meriwether Road in Shreveport. The family requests that attire for the funeral be Christmas themed.
Jerry attended Byrd High School in Shreveport, Louisiana. After school she married William “Bill” Barron on January 25, 1957, in Center, Texas. Bill had enlisted in the United States Army and the two began a military life. During Bill’s enlistment they would be stationed in Tacoma, Washington where their daughter Lenda would be born. With overseas assignments being a routine part of Army life, Jerry came back to Shreveport and gave birth to their second daughter Sheryl. Subsequent moves would find them in Blackstone, Virginia, the Panama Canal Zone, Lawton, Oklahoma and then on to Killeen, Texas. With another overseas tour of duty looming and a third baby on the way Bill and Jerry left the Army, returned to Shreveport and Jerry gave birth to their third and last daughter Jeri Lei.
Over the years Jerry would find herself working at Western Electric on the line, and M.L. Bath and SWEPCO as a switchboard operator. During her years of working, she would support Bill while he continued his education in heating/air conditioning. Jerry would see several animals being raised in the backyard by her daughters for pleasure - rabbits, ducks, geese, a black angus cow “Angie” and let’s not forget Dumplings “the on occasional run-away donkey”. She enjoyed time with her family and raising several canine babies – Angel, Santa Bear, and Lucky, just to name a few, and even fostering one of Sheryl’s dogs, Mindy. When not busy with family, Jerry would indulge in the fine art of cross stitching and would create several of them that would find their way to a frame shop to be mounted and displayed proudly in her home as well as other family and friend’s homes.
Her most famous family claim to fame is that of Mrs. Santa Claus or Mrs. Christmas. The house would be decorated with Christmas trees in the den, the front porch and small ones spotted all over the house. Every Christmas Eve the family would gather for food, fun and family. Not family? Not a problem because everyone was family if you had the pleasure of meeting Jerry.
Jerry was preceded in death by her parents, DeLay and Imogene Clark, and husband, Bill Barron. Left to cherish her memory include her sister, Lannie Jefferson (Larry); daughters, Lenda McCune, Sheryl Cole (Jim), and Lei Sistrunk (Scott); grandchildren, Corey McCune (Meagan), Palei Escobar and partner Deandre Walpool; and great-grandchildren, Rea’Lei and Roycei.
Honoring Jerry as pallbearers will be Chad Boyer, Andrew Godfrey, Corey McCune, Tom Sanders, Scott Sistrunk and Deandre Walpool.
The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to her caregivers over the past few years, Sherry Sanders, Penny Johnson, Erica Meche, Kim Hall, and Keisha Protho.
