Jerry Jay Blunt, age 72, went to be with his Lord on Friday, May 14, 2021 in the comfort of his own home in Stanley, LA. He was born on December 5, 1948 in Logansport, LA to Lawrence and Pearl Blunt. Growing up, he enjoyed working at his family's dairy farm with his brothers and sisters. His job as an offshore drilling OIM and Rig Mover allowed him to travel all over the world.
Jerry's special interests and hobbies included working in his garden with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, telling stories of his travels around the world, cooking and trying new recipes (YouTube was his go-to recipe spot), competing in fishing with his brother Bear, playing on his computer, and listening to old hymns. He adored his little dog Phoebe, his buddy. Jerry had a strong, tough exterior with a heart of gold. He was always everyone's favorite patient, offering kind words and goodies from the garden. Next to his relationship with God, he cherished his family most. He was a wonderful Pap, Dad, Brother, Uncle, and Friend.
Left to honor Jerry's legacy are his two children; Hope Cornett and Greg (Cheri) O'Brien; 6 grandchildren; Lachelle (Derrick) Freshour, Jami (Brady) Green, Haley Cook, Lucas O'Brien, Kayla Randazzo, and Morgan O'Brien; 5 great-grandchildren; Declan, August, Abigail, Izabella, and Maddin; Siblings; Frankie (Joe) Scruggs, Bubba (Sandra) Blunt, Jimmy Blunt, Linda (Arnold) Owens, and Deborah Meisner; and many nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; Lawrence Blunt and Pearl House; brother; Johnny Blunt; and his beloved Janice Blunt.
Jerry's Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at 2:00 pm at the Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Mansfield, LA. Public visitation will be held beforehand from 12:00-2:00 pm. Burial will follow at the Friendship Cemetery in Grand Cane, LA.
Pap will be remembered for his strength, courage, hard work, smart wit, and love. Even in the midst of life's trials, he held firm to the words of one of his favorite hymns, "Because He lives, I can face tomorrow. Because He lives, all fear is gone. Because I know He holds the future. And life is worth the living just because he lives". As believer's in Jesus Christ, we have hope and know we will see him again. And he always so "lovingly" said, "Thanks for the warning".
