KEITHVILLE, LA - Funeral services for Jerry Wayne Hope, 69, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 2, 2016 at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel. SFD Chaplain Mike Perser and Chaplain Durrell Tuberville will be officiating. Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at Rose-Neath Southside Funeral Home from 6-8:00 p.m.
Jerry was born on June 17, 1947 in Shreveport, LA to Oscar Alley Hope and Margaret Elizabeth Burge Hope, and passed away on November 27, 2016, after fighting a long 10 year battle with cancer. Jerry proudly served his country in the National Guard for 6 years and was a member of the American Legion. Jerry was a Shreveport Police Communications Dispatcher for 20 years until his retirement in 1987. After retiring from the police department, he became a volunteer Fireman and EMT for Caddo Parish District 6. He was the president of the Signal 51 Group and was passionate about serving the Shreveport Fire Department. He was the first recipient of the Shreveport Fire Department Civilian Award in 2010. Jerry was an avid scuba diver and received his certification of Dive Master. He belonged to Aldora Divers Club in Cozumel, Mexico where he spent his happiest days. He was a collector of fire trucks and enjoyed driving them in benefit parades. Jerry was the worlds most devoted Johnny Horton fan, much of his rare memorabilia was used in publishing the Johnny Horton boxed collection. Other hobbies include target practice, photography, cooking, water skiing, and listening to country music.
Jerry was a devoted and loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend and co-worker and will be missed by each and every one he knew.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Margaret Hope. Those left to treasure his memory are his loving and devoted wife of 34 years Linda Carol Wooten Hope; son, Ryan Alley Hope; daughters, Angela Hope, Heather McDuff and husband, J.T., Holly Hope, Tammy Moore, Jennifer Waechter, and Mandy Dean; grandchildren, Ethan Hope-Ogden, Andrew Grigsby, Madelyn Hope, Jordan McDuff, Allie McDuff, Erin Hope, James Moore, Katie Moore, Ethan Waechter, and Sarah Beth Waechter; his sister, Wanda Jimenez and husband, Antonio, along with numerous extended family, cousins and friends.
Honoring Jerry as honorary pallbearers will be Ryan Hope, Jay McDuff, Tony Jimenez, Steve Guier, Micky Fertitta, Paul Steele, Tommy Horton, Greg Powell, Billy Humphrey, and Signal 51.
The family would like to say a special thanks to Dr. Vicky Jimenez for her hospitality while he was receiving treatments at MD Anderson, and Dr. Paul Corn for all the care and compassion he gave. Thanks to Dave Dillehay who enabled Jerry to follow his passion of hunting lion fish in the Caribbean. Also a very special thank you to Jerry's devoted sister Wanda, who helped him every single day, for all the love, care, and support she gave.
