Jerry L. Marler

Funeral service honoring the life of Jerry L. Marler, Sr. will be held Saturday, June 12, 2021, at 11:00 a.m.at Airline Baptist Church, 4007 Airline Drive, Bossier City, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Reverend Harrell Shelton. Visitation is Friday, June 11, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2201 Airline Drive, Bossier City, Louisiana. Interment with full military honors will follow at Rose-Neath Bossier Cemetery, 5185 Swan Lake Road, Bossier City, Louisiana. Jerry L. Marler, Sr. was born on January 27, 1936, in Hobart, Oklahoma and claimed his heavenly reward on May 30, 2021, with his daughter by his side. He was a long-time resident of Bossier City, LA and later moved to Mustang, OK. Jerry retired from the United States Air Force after a distinguished career from 1951-1974. He served during the Korean and Vietnam War. During his Air Force career, he was a missile analyst and was awarded membership in the Royal Order of the Knights of Thor, Blue Knights, and earned 3 Air Force Meritorious Service Awards. After his retirement from the USAF Jerry worked for the US Postal service and worked his way through the ranks from sorting mail to managing the Express Mail department. He graduated from Louisiana Tech University in 1981 with a Bachelor of Arts in General Studies. Jerry enjoyed golf, bowling, LSU baseball, and spending time with family. He will be remembered for his beautiful smile, and being a man of courage, strength, love, faith, and honor. He had an open heart for those in need and lived life to the fullest every day. Jerry was loved and respected by everyone that was blessed to know him. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Shirley Marler; parents, Omar Lee Marler and Mary Etta Marler; brother, James "Jimmy" Marler; sisters, Nelda McMaster and Maxine Mellendorf; and sons, Jerry L. Marler, Jr. and Jeffery N. Marler, Sr. Survivors include daughter, Suellen and husband, Mac Gallier; sister, Micky Simpson; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Russell-Murray Hospice and their dedicated staff and nurses of Oklahoma City, OK, for their compassionate care during his final days saying farewell to family members.
