Jerry Lynn Mayfield

MANSFIELD, LA--Jerry Lynn Mayfield, 76, passed away on May 8th after a brief bout with cancer. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 11th at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel in Mansfield, LA and 1:00 PM. The family will receive friends Friday, May 11th from 10 am until time of service. The Rev. David Permenter and Rev. Jimmy Price will be officiating the funeral and Father Milton F. Ryan, C.M. will preside over the graveside service. The burial will follow at the Old Union Cemetery. Jerry was born in Oil City, LA on June 28, 1941 to Jesse and Elizabeth Walker Mayfield. He graduated from Pelican High School in 1960. He has made his home in Catuna for the past 56 years where he raised his family and worked in the oilfield. His success in the oil and gas industry was the direct result of his hard labor, wise stewardship and yes his willingness to take risks. Jerry never went to college, but very few Petroleum Geologists could ever match his knowledge in discovery and production of oil and gas. For Jerry, work was a joy and a privilege, not a burden, and he was always grateful for it. More often than not you would see red clay on his boots and oilfield grime on his khaki pants and shirt! He worked hard all of his life. Even though he slowed down he never retired, nor did he ever see retirement as a goal. He was having too much fun working! Jerry certainly wasn't a perfect man, but he was a good man. He believed in Jesus as his Lord and Savior and in his last days took comfort in the promise that Christ made to all the faithful "I will raise you up!" May Jerry now share with Christ an eternal home where there is no more suffering, no more tears and no more sadness". Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Mary Frances Ryan Mayfield, and brother James Orvil Mayfield. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Barbara Pilkington Mauldin Mayfield of Mansfield, La, a son Michael Kevin Mayfield, of Mansfield, La, a daughter Frances Lynn Love and husband Danny of Stanley, La, step- daughters Wendy Banes & husband Joe of Sierra Vista, AZ and Sandra Baker & husband Jamie of DeQueen, AR, his sister Linda Kay Mayfield Rhea and husband Richard of Longview, TX, sister-in-law Willie Fay "Cooter" Mayfield and grandchildren Jamie Lynn Love and Jessica Danielle Love both of Shreveport, La.
