SHREVEPORT, LA- A funeral service celebrating the life of Jerry Mitchell, 83 will be held Tuesday January 31, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel, officiating will be Pastor Ray Holoman. Internment will take place at Forest Park West. Visitation from will be 5-6:30 on Monday 30, 2017 at Rose-Neath Southside. Jerry was born June 16, 1933 in Ruston, La to Charles E and Alma Jennings Mitchell. Jerry was reared in Minden, La and died January 27, 2017.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Maria Sanchez Mitchell; daughter, Juanita (Jenny) Hobbs; sisters, Clarice Pilcher and Marguerite Mitchell; brothers, C.E. Mitchell Jr and Bobby G. Mitchell. He is survived by daughter, Teresa Mitchell of Haughton; son, Paul D. Mitchell of Shreveport; son-in-law, Daryl Hobbs; 9 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; several nephews and a niece. Honoring Jerry as pallbearers will be Robert R Roberts, B.J. Roberts, Justin Morris, Adam Mitchell, David Smith and John Merello.
Jerry was retired from a 47 year career including 24 years as an accountant/ office manager and 23 years as an independent trucking business owner. He was a member of the Baptist faith, a USAF Korean War Veteran, and a 32 degree Scottish Rites Mason.
Jerry was endowed with a positive outlook and with his cheerful, good humor he enjoyed the beauty of nature. But, his greatest love was for home and family. His honesty, good nature, love and devotion leaves an everlasting void in our hearts and lives. As he rests in eternal peace, his spirit and memory forever remains cherished with us.
